Chem Dawg was created in the early 1990s in the parking lot of a Grateful Dead concert. Dead concerts had a reputation for being trade centers for cannabis cultivars, and during this particular show, a breeder named Chem purchased an ounce of Dogbud from fellow growers P-Bud and Joe Brand. The flower — which supposedly originated along the California-Oregon border — tasted so strongly of chemicals that Joe Brand nicknamed it Chem.
